Planning Commission

The Baraga Township Planning Commission serves as an advisory body that helps guide the township’s growth, land use, and long-term development. Working under Michigan’s planning and zoning laws, the commission reviews proposed projects, updates the township’s master plan, and makes recommendations to the township board on zoning ordinances, land divisions, and development requests. Their goal is to ensure that new development aligns with the community’s vision while protecting property values, natural resources, and the overall character of the area.

In addition to reviewing site plans and rezoning requests, the Planning Commission provides a forum for public input on how Baraga Township should grow in the future. They balance the needs of residents, businesses, and visitors by considering factors such as infrastructure, environmental impact, housing, and economic development. Through careful planning and community engagement, the commission helps maintain a safe, sustainable, and well-organized township for current and future residents.

Public hearings and special meetings will be posted on this page two weeks prior to the meeting. All planning commission meetings, hearings, and work sessions are open to the public.
